More Low Scores in Strathmore

Jul 28, 2016

A busy three-events-in-four days swing in the Calgary area came to a successful conclusion today in Strathmore. The club is gearing up for the big Strathmore Stampede this weekend in the community, but the 35 or so junior golfers on hand today had a stampede of their own as they attacked the beautifully conditioned Strathmore layout. Korbin Allan of the host club finally captured his home town junior tournament, firing a very steady round of 3-under par 69 to edge two players by three shots. In the junior girls' division, Lauren Cheng of Silver Springs shot 78 to defeat Victoria Tse of Country Hills, also by a 3-stroke margin. I just got back to Edmonton from Strathmore and will have the full results up on the website by 10 p.m. this evening.

Another Outstanding Junior Tour Stop Today at Country Hills

Jul 27, 2016

Ever since the Country Hills GCC in northwest Calgary has been hosting a McLennan Ross Junior Tour event, the tournament has had a 'major' feel. Today was no different and 60 juniors from across the province can attest to that. The host club's juniors swept the trophies as Josh Lumgair and Cassidy Couture were best in the boys and girls divisions respectively. Lumgair's 2-under 69 edged Red Deer's Carter Graf by a single shot, as did Couture's 77 over Bearspaw's Cassidy Laidlaw, one shot back on 78. Full results will be on the Tour website by 7 p.m. this evening.

Great Day, Great Golf in Canmore

Jul 25, 2016

What a fantastic day in Canmore! Unbelievable scenery combined with a warm, windless day ideal for scoring, and did the kids EVER score! Cassidy Laidlaw of Bearspaw tied the alltime scoring record for junior girls on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour with a sensational 8-birdie, 4-under par round of 68, her personal career best. Not to be overshadowed TOO much, Jordan Bean of the host club eagled the 18th hole to cap a 2-under par 69 and edge his brother Matt, who had to be content with runner-up status after his own fine round of even-par 71. Par for women in Canmore is 72 in case you thought I got the math wrong. Full results will be on the Tour website by 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Srixon Order of Merit Now Updated Through Camrose

Jul 22, 2016

This was a busy week on Tour, with four events in four days throughout Central Alberta. As a result, there have been some significant changes to the Top Ten in each division on the Srixon Order of Merit standings. Two of the leaders (Hill and Hamelin) remain at the top of their age group, but two new leaders (Shannon and Turcotte) pushed their way to the top this week with solid performances. Click on the Order of Merit link to see the Top Ten and ties in each division.

Busy Week Comes to an End in Camrose

Jul 21, 2016

Our annual four-events-in-four-days swing through Central Alberta came to a close today in Camrose. Colton Leslie of the host club toured his home layout in a 5-over par 76, good for a 1-shot margin over his clubmate Levi Osterwalder. On the junior girls' side, Kennedy Turcotte of the Mighty Peace GC turned the tables on her cousin Hailey Turcotte by firing an 82 to beat Hailey by a single stroke, reversing yesterday's result in Wetaskiwin. Full results will be on the website by 7:30 p.m. this evening.
