It was a dark and stormy afternoon. For the second day in a row, we had some severe weather, including lightning, hail and rain, but unlike yesterday's Carstairs Tour stop a little south on Highway 2A, today's event in Olds was unable to get restarted after inclement weather forced us to bring the kids in off the course after about 90 minutes of competition. We are sorry we were unable to complete play today, but it just wasn't safe to do so. The Tour gets back in gear next week with four events in and around the Calgary area.
It got UGLY out there for a while, with late afternoon tornado warnings and a couple of lightning bolts that shook my molars just after we had scurried the kids to safety today at the Carstairs Junior Open. But the golf was scintillating, highlighted by Andrew Widjaja's 6 birdie and a Hole-in-One 6-under par 66! Two days ago I had barely heard of this kid and today, he is perhaps one of the brightest new talents on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour in years. The junior girls' winner today was slightly more predictable, as Sharmain Rapisura of Inglewood fired a steady 77 to capture the junior girls' division. I'm going to try to get the full results on the website tonight before I fall asleep!
Andrew Widjaja and Samantha Copeland are both part of the very successful and long-running junior development program at Willow Park GC in Calgary, and both took their first McLennan Ross Junior Tour titles today in Turner Valley. Widjaja, 17, fired a competitive career-low round of 3-under par 69 over the beautifully groomed fairways at the Turner Valley layout, about a half hour southwest of the Calgary city limits. Copeland shot a 91 and while the only competition today was herself, she still more than held her own playing in company of three junior boys in her group. Full results of today's tournament will be on the website by 5 p.m. this afternoon.
Sunday, July 19, 7:00 p.m. ...Just arrived in Calgary and all set for tomorrow morning in Turner Valley for the 9 a.m. shotgun start for their tournament. Stopped in Carstairs on the way down to check on things. Lots of entries the last 24 hours and they will hold spots open until 2 p.m. on Monday for last minute entrants. Course looks in fantastic shape! Carstairs will be a 1:30 p.m. crossover start. Phone the club after 5 p.m. on Monday for your tee time.

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
