Ethan Choi Shoots 59 to Win the Alberta Bantam Boys Championship!

Aug 25, 2016

Several years ago, I saw Dale Vallely of Medicine Hat shoot 63 in Barrhead at the Alberta Junior, and I thought THAT round of golf was pretty impressive. So what about Ethan Choi's round yesterday at River's Edge in Okotoks? He shot an incredible 11-under par 59 to win the weather-delayed 18-hole Alberta Golf Bantam Boys Championship for the 2nd year in a row. I mean, it' one thing to see a seasoned pro like Jim Furyk shoot 58 on the PGA Tour, but a 14-year-old kid have the nerve and skill to go sub-60? As the kids would say,,,RIDONKULOUS! Congratulations to Ethan and we look forward to seeing him on Monday in the field at Wolf Creek for the Tour Championship. Mind-boggling,,,,crazy,,sooooooooo good,,,sick,,,unbelievable,,,,I'm searching for adjectives. See you Monday, Ethan!

Smith, Martin Take Titles at "The Hipple"

Aug 22, 2016

The 2016 McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour regular season came to a conclusion today with the Kevin Hipple Memorial Junior Open at Pinebrook GCC in southwest Calgary. Named in honour of a junior member at Pinebrook who passed away far too early in his young life, "The Hipple" has been a mainstay on the Calgary junior golf scene for 32 years and is one of the major events on the McLennan Ross Tour. Alex Smith of the host club is a member of Golf Canada's National Development Team and had to be considered the morning line favorite, and he certainly lived up to expectations. His 4-under par 67 continued a terrific run of under-par performances by Tour winners this month, and was three shots clear of two players. In the junior girls division, Reese Martin of Brooks made the trip to Calgary worthwhile by firing a 79 to both capture the female flight and qualify for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek next Monday in the process. Full results from today's tournament will be on the website by 10 p.m. tonight.
