A Scorcher in Nanton

Jul 29, 2014

A beautiful prairie morning turned searing hot by the time junior golfers from across southern Alberta and as far north as Whitecourt made their way around the Nanton GC today for the latest stop on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay. Temperatures were hitting 32C by the time the players got off the course, and thankfully Alex Smith of Pinebrook made one more putt than the rest of the field did. Smith fired a 4-over par 75 to nip four players tied for second with 76s. We might STILL be out on the Nanton course in a playoff if we had a 5-way tie! On the junior girls' side, Reese Martin of Brooks earned her way into the field for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek on August 25 with an 85, today, 5 shots clear of joint runners-up Amanda Graham of Canmore and Sydney Scraba of Canyon Meadows. Full results will be on the Tour website by 6 p.m. this evening.

What a treat to play golf in this spectacular setting and beauty. Full results will be on the Tour website by 7 p.m. this evening.

Srixon Order of Merit Now Updated!

Jul 25, 2014

The Srixon Order of Merit is now up to date including yesterday's tournament at Country Hills. There has been plenty of shuffling in the three age groups for boys this week, with all age groups very closely bunched. Only in the Junior Girls do we have a runaway leader, but with the season about halfway done, there are plenty of events left on the schedule to make up ground on the leaders. Check the Order of Merit standings to see the Top Ten and ties in each category.

Chris Horton Wins in Playoff: Brianna Carrels Best Among the Girls

Jul 24, 2014

Chris Horton used home course knowledge to his advantage today, surviving a 3-way sudden victory playoff at the Country Hills Junior Classic, today's stop on Tour. Horton endured strong winds all day and especially during the playoff over Curtis Reynolds and Brett Duthie after all 3 players had tied for low overall with 77s. Carrels fired an excellent 76 today, 7 shots clear of Sharmaine Rapisura of Inglewood. Full results will be on the website by 9:30 p.m. this evening.
