Trio of Winners Today in Ponoka

Aug 08, 2017

At some McLennan Ross Junior Tour events, all the junior boys play the same set of tees, and at others, such as today in Ponoka, the younger boys born in 2003 and later play a shorter set more in line with their ages and abilities. But every once in a while, a player in the younger age group upsets the apple cart and fires the low round of the day from a shorter set of tees than those played by his older contemporaries. Well, that's what happened today, as Cole Bergheim of Red Deer fired a fine 4-over par 76 from the Blue tees, playing at about 5,600 yards and three older boys tied for low gross at 77 from the longer Silver Tees. Sikander Kaleka of Stony Plain birdied the par-5 1st hole in the sudden-victory playoff in Ponoka to defeat two opponents, but in my mind, both Sikander and Cole have plenty to be proud of. Kaitlyn Wingnean of the Derrick was low junior girl today with an 81 as she continues her drive to win back-to-back Srixon Order of Merit titles. Full results will be on the Tour website by about 7:30 pm this evening.

This Week On Tour

Aug 07, 2017

Three fun and challenging tournaments coming up this week! Tuesday, Aug 8 - Ponoka. They just hosted the Sun Life Financial Alberta Men's Amateur championship, so I know the course is in fantastic condition. 9 am shotgun start. Wednesday, Aug 9 - A tournament with a 'major' feel, the "Pete Club" is always in immaculate condition. Fresh muffins first thing in the morning,,,,probably the largest and strongest field of the year so far...leave plenty of time to get there. 8 am shotgun start. Thursday, Aug 10- Trestle Creek. About an hour west of the city, the Trestle Creek event is growing in size and stature every year. They do a great job in hosting and the course is one of the toughest on the Tour. 9 am shotgun. ENTER EARLY PLEASE!!! The courses need to know how many players they should plan for. See you on Tour this week!

Tour Championship Letters Now Sent Out!

Aug 07, 2017

Information Letters have now gone out to those players who have qualified for the August 28th Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort, up to and including the most recent Tour event at Goose Hummock. I need the following players to contact me, because they either got away from the site at which they qualified before I could get their contact information, or the email address that they supplied to me bounced back to me earlier today: Austin Noskiye, Justin Auger, Zach Zabot, Ben Lovrod, Taylen Garlough, and Carter Doerksen.

Bossert is the "Boss" at Goose Hummock

Aug 04, 2017

Jarrett Bossert of Belvedere fired his 2nd consecutive 74 this morning at Goose Hummock to capture the Goose Hummock Junior Open. Bossert's 36-hole total of 148 was two shots ahead of Cole Ruelling of Lewis Estates (76-74) and Mason Kucy (74-76) of Camrose who tied for runner-up. The results are a bit late onto the website tonight because I went across the city to Windermere GCC after we wrapped up at The Goose to watch several McLennan Ross Tour alums competing in the Mackenzie Tour professional event, including Wil Bateman of Edmonton. Bateman is the youngest-ever winner of a McLennan RossTour event, having won the Goose Hummock tournament with a one-day total of 73 when he was 11 years old. Full results from the Goose Hummock tournament will be on the Tour website by 9:30 p.m.

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
