A Stampede of Birdies in Ponoka

Jul 13, 2015

Perfect scoring conditions greeted 56 junior golfers from across Alberta this morning at the Ponoka Junior Open, today's stop on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay. The kids did not disappoint, either, as several juniors had outstanding rounds. Leading the way were Dakota Smith of the Public Player Club and Shaye and Daria Ledenius, twin sisters from Ponoka now playing out of Wolf Creek. Smith overcame a first-hole double bogey to play 7-under over his final 17 holes, posting a competitive career-low 5-under par 67, low round on the Tour this year and three shots clear of Jaxon Lynn of Red Deer GCC. In the Junior Girls' division, Daria and Shaye went back and forth all day in a tight battle, but when the smoke (what smoke?) cleared, Daria's 74 was a single shot better than her sister. Fine play by all concerned! Full results are now on the website.

Entries are still open for all four tournaments next week, so please pick up the phone and call the host clubs today for any events you wish to enter for next week.

How Loro Can You Go-Ro?

Jul 08, 2015

Much of the fun running the Tour is seeing young people earn their first tournament win, or first hole-in-one, or a career low round. Justin Loro of Country Hills GC bagged his first Tour win today with a 76 on the lightning fast greens and tightly groomed fairways of the Lacombe GCC in the Jordan Brand Memorial Junior Open, one of four charter events on the Tour dating back to our inaugural 1996 season. While not a competitive personal best, Loro did earn his maiden victory, despite bogeying his final four holes of his round. The host club's Jeremy Rietze earned his second runner-up finish in two days, firing a 78 to tie for 2nd with Bryce Kopec of Alberta Springs. With close to 20 junior girls competing this week at the Golf Canada Future Links Championship at Goose Hummock Golf Resort, Clare McMahon of Balmoral GC found herself as the sole junior girl in the field today, but fired a solid 89 just the same. Full results will be on the Tour website by 10 p.m. this evening.

Numrich, Cheng, Tops in Innisfail

Jul 07, 2015

Grant Numrich of Red Deer and Silver Springs' Lauren Cheng each captured their respective divisions in the Innisfail Junior Open, today's stop on the Tour. Numrich fired a brilliant 3-under par 69, low round on the Tour this year, and he needed virtually every birdie to edge Jeremy Rietze of Lacombe by 2 shots as Reitze fired a fine 1-under par 71 of his own. Cheng made the trip north from Calgary on the QEII well worth her while as her 84 was good for a 6-shot margin over Courtney Dickson and Nikki Norlin, both of the host club. Full results will be on the Tour website by 9 p.m. tonight.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors.
