The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour

Latest News from the Tour

Jul 16, 2018

We need to remind entrants for next Monday's Tour event at RedTail Landing that the club does not own any pull carts. Juniors planning to compete in the Monday, July 23 McLennan Ross Tour event will either have to bring their own pull cart or be prepared to carry your clubs. We wanted to make sure all the players were aware of this. Thanks. Also, it will an 8 a.m. shotgun start, not 9 a.m. as previously advised on the website. Our apologies for any confusion.

This Week On Tour

Jul 15, 2018

It promises to be a busy week on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour. Not only are we looking forward to temperatures in the 30 degree range the next few days, we have three terrific golf courses lined up ready to host junior golfers looking for fun and competitive opportunities. We regret we had to cancel the Drayton Valley event tomorrow, but read on for more information about the other three tournaments on later in the week.....Tuesday, Whitetail Crossing GC in Mundare; Wednesday, Montgomery Glen GC in Wetaskiwin, and Camrose GC on Thursday. All three are 9 am shotgun starts and all three have spots open for juniors looking for great competitive opportunities. Call the courses early this week to enter.

Drayton Valley Tournament Cancelled

Jul 13, 2018

We are sorry to report that Monday's scheduled Drayton Valley Junior Open has been cancelled. We had less than a dozen entries up to noon today and we could just not ask the club to hold tee times open for Monday when it appeared we were not going to be able to attract a reasonable field for the event. We thank Head Pro Weston Gillett at Drayton Valley for his patience and support for the Tour, but it just wasn't fair to the club to do anything else but cancel the event. The GOOD news is that we still have three excellent junior golf opportunities still on the schedule for next week. Tuesday, we will be at Whitetail Crossing GC in Mundare, Wednesday at Montgomery Glen GC in Wetaskiwin and on Thursday in Camrose. All three are 9 a.m. shotgun starts and all three are accepting entries now.

Alberta Golf Foundation Scholarships Awarded

Jul 12, 2018

For those of you who aren't aware, in addition to my volunteer duties with Alberta Golf as a Rules Official in and around running the Tour, I also sit on the Alberta Golf Foundation scholarship committee. It was my privilege today to sit in on a meeting this morning at the Alberta Golf office in Calgary, where the committee awarded $60,000 in post-secondary scholarships to 61 applicants from across Alberta. The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay, has funded over $80.000 in scholarships to the Foundation in our 23 years of existence and I was pleased to be in the meeting today where these deserving young people were awarded their scholarships. Alberta Golf will be notifying the students within the next two weeks of their awards and doing their own Media Release, but I just wanted to talk a bit about the Tour's contributions to the Foundation over the years. I want to thank the Tour's roster of corporate partners whose generous contributions to junior golf in Alberta has made our portion of the scholarship awards possible. There were some outstanding applications and I feel great about the future of our province seeing the quality of the academic achievements of these young people. We are proud to be a part of it......Dunc Mills

Big Week Coming Up on Tour; Entries Needed for Drayton Valley

Jul 11, 2018

Having now wrapped up the Olds Junior Open today, we turn our attention to a busy four-events-in-four-days slate next week in the Edmonton area. Entries are coming in now for Whitetail Crossing on Tuesday in Mundare (pepperoni for prizes!), Montgomery Glen in Wetaskiwin on Wednesday (Best Meal on Tour!), and Camrose on Thursday (one of the biggest fields on Tour last year). However, we are disappointed to report that entries so far for Drayton Valley on Monday have been very slow coming in. We have spoken to Head Professional Weston Gillett today and we have agreed that unless we get a MINIMUM of 20 additional entries by Noon on Friday, July 13th, we will have to cancel their event. We certainly don't want to drop events from the Tour schedule, kids, but we need a competitive field of players for a club to justify giving up their facility for junior golf. So, if you are planning on entering Drayton Valley, please do so NOW! We will report back to you Friday afternoon as to the status of the DV tournament.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
