Tour Alumni in ATB Financial Classic in Calgary

PGA Tour Canada comes to Calgary this week for the ATB Financial Classic, Presented by Telus, at the Talons Course at Country Hills GC. A quick glance at the list of competitors shows nine former McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour alumni in the field, including Bateman, Evanecz, Fleming, Lecuyer, Love, Mezei, Sahl, Gibson and Yip. Good luck to all those players and all the other Canadians in the field this week at Country Hills. Get out to watch if you can!

Ryan Yip In the U.S.Open!

Ryan Yip of Calgary, now living in Indio, CA, has got into the U.S.Open later this week at Merion GC in Ardmore, PA. Yip was 1st Alternate from his site after last week's Sectional Qualifying and got one of the last 5 spots for Alternates that the USGA was holding open pending the results of the Official World Golf Ranking as of this morning. Yip, 28, will be the lone Albertan and one of 5 Canadians in the field. Ryan played the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour in his early years of junior golf and won the Sun Life Alberta Men's Amateur Championship at age 17. Congratulations to Ryan!

McCourt, Creaser Get First Wins of the Year

Matt McCourt of the home Drayton Valley GC and Emily Creaser of the Derrick Golf and Winter Club earned their first Tour wins of the season today at the season-opening Drayton Valley Junior Open. McCourt blistered his home course in a terrific 2-under par 69 to win by six shots. Creaser, the 2012 Srixon Order of Merit winner, picked up right where she left off last year by firing a fine 81 to post her first Tour win of the year. Full results will be on the website by 6:30 pm tonight.

Emily Creaser Named Athlete of the Week on Global TV

Emily Creaser, 16, of the Derrick Golf and Winter Club in Edmonton, has been named the Elite Sportswear Athlete of the Week on Global Television in Edmonton. This weekly award recognizes outstanding young athletes throughout northern Alberta and Emily is certainly deserving of this recognition by Global. Creaser won 7 times on the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour in 2012 to capture the Srixon Order of Merit for Junior Girls in record-breaking fashion. Congratulations, Emily!

Tour Alumni in U.S.Open Sectional Qualifying

Monday, June 3rd is a huge day for four Albertans, including 3 former McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour alumni. Scott Stiles of Calgary tees it up tomorrow in the 36-hole Sectional Qualifying site at Cle Elum, WA where 34 players compete for 2 spots in the U.S. Open to be held at Merion CC. Stiles is joined in the field by fellow PGA Tour Canada players Wes Heffernan of Calgary along with other prominent Canadians Eugene Wong of Vancouver and Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, BC. Ryan Yip of Calgary is playing in Springfield OH in a 39 player for 2 spots site. Prominent players at Yip's site include PGA Tour players James Hahn and Derek Ernst. The GOOD news for Mitch Evanecz of Red Deer is that there are 15 spots available at his sectional qualifying site in Columbus OH. The BAD news is that there are 120 players competing for those 15 spots including many competitors coming directly from the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour including Davis Love, Charley Hoffman, Sean O'Hair, David Hearn, Vijay Singh and others. Good luck to all the Albertans tomorrow!!!

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
