Exciting Playoff Today in Whitecourt

Aug 16, 2011

Another year, another playoff in Whitecourt. At a Tour site that seems to attract playoffs like flies to honey, the Whitecourt Junior Open today lived up to its reputation. With a sparkling new clubhouse overlooking the 18th green and players and spectators eagerly watching, Konrad Turcotte of High Prairie two-putted from 40 feet for par to defeat Josh Gorieu of Stony Plain after each player had navigated the tree-lined Whitecourt fairways in 77 shots. Full results will be on the website by 9:00 p.m. this evening.

Let's Talk About Deadlines!

Aug 15, 2011

Today's tour event in Stony Plain was a marvellous success. The course was in perfect condition, having recently hosted the Sun Life Financial Alberta Men's Amateur. The host club's committee did their usual bang-up job of pre- and post-round organization, with computer scoring, plenty of prizes and tons of fun for the kids. What could possibly have gone wrong? Well what went WRONG was several players left it too late to enter and missed the Saturday evening closing deadline for the tournament. Entry information was posted on the website well in advance, so no one can say they didn't receive plenty of advance notice. Same thing happened last week in Calgary for excellent tournaments at Pinebrook and Country Hills. One angry parent who phoned Stony Plain at something like 8 p.m. Sunday night wanting to enter their youngster in the event angrily told staff at Stony Plain that "...McLennan Ross events have NEVER had deadlines!" Kids,,Parents,,,please! EVERY Tour event has an entry deadline! Some courses try to accommodate as many players as possible by leaving their entry open as long as they can, but many events close off their entry at least a day or two prior to their events, and that is perfectly understandable. Tournaments take planning,,,making the draws,,advising food and beverage staff of numbers in attendance,,,preparing the golf course appropriately,,,accommodating members and green fee players when tournament entries fall short of completely filling a shotgun start. Life,,and junior golf,,,has deadlines. Obviously, we want to provide as many players as possible the opportunity to compete in our events, but we have to consider the needs of our host site partners in this venture. Entry information for the remaining three 'regular season' events on the 2011 schedule is elsewhere on the home page "News" section. Please read it closely to avoid any last minute disappointments.

Another "Career" in Stony Plain

Aug 15, 2011

In the nearly 16 full years of the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour, tens of thousands of rounds of golf have been played by thousands of the best junior golfers in Alberta, but today at Stony Plain, we had what is believed to be the first 9-hole score of 30 posted by a competitor. The fantastic score was turned in by 17-year-old Jordan Brown of Woodside GC in Airdrie, on his way to a brilliant 5-under par 67, low round of the day by four shots over A.J. Armstrong of Sturgeon Valley. Brown was a solid, if unspectacular 1-over par 37 at the turn, but he eagled both par-5s on the back side, threw in two more birdies for good measure, et voila! Thirty. Full results will be on the website by 9:45 p.m. this evening.

Harrison, Creaser Win,,,NO BULL!

Aug 11, 2011

Andrew Harrison, 14, continued his sparkling play on Tour today at the very challenging Black Bull Golf Resort, firing a steady 77 over the difficult Ma-Me-O Beach layout, and then defeating Lacombe's Jeremy Rietze, 15, on the first hole of a sudden-victory playoff. Harrison's win today was his third of the season, an exceptional performance by one of the province's top young players. On the Junior Girls' side, Derrick's Emily Creaser captured her first win. Full results will be on the website by 6:30 p.m., or two cold adult beverages, whichever comes first!

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
