Another One Bites The Dust

Jul 27, 2011

The march to the season-ending Tour Championship on August 29th at Wolf Creek took another step forward today as the Tour chalked off another event, this time today at the Strathmore Junior Open. Fifty juniors, mostly from the greater Calgary area, but some from as far away as Edmonton, dropped in to test their games on some of the best fairways and greens I've seen all year anywhere. Brennan Swanson of Country Hills and his clubmate Casara Hong were the best in their respective boys and girls divisions today. Full results will be on the website by 8:00 p.m. this evening.

Local Knowledge Pays Dividends in Canmore

Jul 25, 2011

Having good course knowledge of your home track is never a disadvantage in a tournament, and play today in Canmore certainly showed that to be true. Alex Cartwright and Laura Ferreira, both playing out of the Canmore Golf and Curling Club, each won their respective Junior Boys and Junior Girls titles in the Canmore Junior Open. Cartwright fired a fine 4-under par 67 but still had to go to a sudden victory playoff with Cam Hill of Country Hills, but he prevailed on the first extra hole. Ferreira had a slightly easier time as her 75 was good for a 7-shot margin over Mandy Wong of Country Hills. Full results will be on the website by 8:30 p.m. this evening. ----8:29 p.m. I made it with a minute to spare!!!

Srixon Order of Merit Updated Through Camrose

Jul 22, 2011

The 2011 Srixon Order of Merit standings have been updated up to and including yesterday's tournament in Camrose. There has been a lot of movement this week in all four groups, with Andrew Harrison of Camrose and Katie Griffiths of Red Deer threatening to pull away in their respective divisions. However, with more events coming up soon south of Red Deer, this will give Calgary and area players more of an opportunity to catch up to northern Alberta competitors.

The "Hawken" has Landed!

Jul 21, 2011

Another first time Tour winner today in Camrose as Brett Hawken of Montgomery Glen GC in nearby Wetaskiwin earned his inaugural Tour victory by firing an even-par 71 to capture the 2011 Camrose Junior Open. Kate Griffiths of Red Deer won yet another junior girls division. Full results will be on the website by 6:30 p.m. this evening.

Canmore Entry Information!! IMPORTANT!!!

Jul 20, 2011

We spoke yesterday to Rick Eichele, the Head Pro at Canmore, site of an always popular Tour event coming up on Monday\, July 25th. Rick wanted to let all the players know that there are still a few entries available for their tournament, but entries are closing on THURSDAY, July 21st at 1:00 p.m., so if you have plans to enter Canmore, please do so today!!! This is always one of the 'must play' events on the Tour, so don't leave it too late and end up disappointed. I will have more information on here tonight about entry information for other upcoming events, including the Kevin Hipple at Pinebrook and the Country Hills Junior Open, but I'm writing this at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday on my way to the shower and heading for Wetaskiwin's tournament this morning.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
