Ponoka Jr Open Leads Off Busy Week on Tour

The Ponoka Junior Open is one of the four remaining charter members of the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay. Director of Golf Rob McPherson and Head Professional Ryan Moore and their team put on the usual excellent junior event in Ponoka, presenting a golf course in terrific condition and backed by superb organization. We had a season-high field of 11 junior girls on hand this morning, so we are going to lead off our results with their achievements.

Alyshia Suleman of the Royal Mayfair led a race to the wire today, firing an 86 to edge Jenna Bruggeman of the Derrick and Bruggeman's clubmate Kaitlyn Wingnean by a single stroke. Wingnean is the defending Srixon Order of Merit champion and was making only her second start on Tour this summer. Jayla Kucy of Camrose was another shot back in fourth with a fine 89, especially considering this youngster is only ten years old! With the larger number of girls on hand today, two spots were available for the season-ending Tour Championship and those coveted spots went to Suleman and Bruggeman, as Wingnean had previously qualified.

In the junior boys' division, Jordan Williamson of Balmoral GC in Red Deer continued his fine play on Tour this summer.  With two runner-up finishes so far this year on his resume, Williamson finally broke into the winners' circle this afternoon, firing a 78 to edge three players by one stroke. Brady McKinlay of Lacombe, Sikander Kaleka of Stony Plain, and Jordan Biollo of Pheasantback were all on 79 and left the course agonizing over that single stroke that would have got them into a playoff. Kaleka and Biollo snagged spots in the Tour Championship today, along with Wild Card qualifier Mitch Deslarlais (82) of Broadmoor, Will Holan (80) from the flight for boys born in 2000/2001, and Naoki Iwasaki (84) of Windermere from the flight for boys born in 2002 and later.

The Tour continues its Central Alberta swing tomorrow at Whitetail Crossing GC in Mundare, with stops on Wednesday at Montgomery Glen in Wetaskiwin and the Camrose GC on Thursday.  Spots are still open for all three events, but phone NOW to enter if you wish to compete.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
