A season-high 60 junior golfers from as far away as Grande Prairie descended on the beautifully groomed Camrose GC this morning to wind up a very busy week on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay. As winds picked up through the morning, the scores rose as well, and when play concluded, we had our second three-way playoff  in the last week (Olds) in the Junior Boys' division.

Devin Kucy of Camrose won the first 3-way playoff of the season a week ago in Olds, and today his older brother Mason got his turn at overtime, along with Austin Noskiye of The Links at Spruce Grove and Ben Lovrod of the Grande Prairie GCC.  All three players had fired rounds of 77 on the slick, tricky greens of the Camrose layout. Lovrod dropped out of the playoff after encountering tree trouble on the first hole of sudden-death, and when Kucy and Noskiye couldn't decide a winner after two more trips down the 18th hole, they were declared co-champions.

Lovrod earned his way into the Tour Championship coming up at the end of August at Wolf Creek GR, and will be joined by Nate Gerhardt of Pipestone GC from the flight for boys born in 1998-2000, and Goose Hummock's Owen Lai from the flight for boys born in 2003 and later. Wild Card qualifiers today were Ethan Klutke from the River Valley Juniors in Edmonton and Brolin Badger from the Edmonton CC.

The Junior Girls division was no less exciting as the host club's Jayla Kucy and Derrick's Kaitlyn Wingnean continued their recent head-to-head battles, tying for low gross with 80s. Wingnean won yesterday at Montgomery Glen GC in Wetaskiwin, but Kucy turned the tables today by making a bogey-5 on the first hole of the playoff after Wingnean went OB on her second shot by a matter of inches and made a great scramble for a double bogey. As both girls had previously qualified for Wolf Creek, the spot up for grabs today from the seven junior girls on hand went to Alyshia Suleman from the Royal Mayfair.

The Tour moves south next week, with the next event on the schedule being the Kevin Hipple Memorial Junior Open at Pinebrook GCC in Calgary on Monday.  We are pleased to report tonight that we have received close to 50 entries for this prestigious and long-standing event on the Calgary junior golf scene and the tournament is a definite "GO" for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Monday.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
