A steady morning rain in the Calgary area gave way to overcast skies and eventually a sunny finish to the Carstairs Junior Open, today's stop  on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay. The course had some casual water in spots, but the greens and fairways were in superb condition for juniors  from as far away as Edmonton,Camrose and Drumheller.

When play concluded, we were faced with our second sudden-victory playoff (Barrhead) of the season as three players tied for low gross with scores of 1-over par 73.  Sam Hamelin of Pheasantback GC near  Stettler stuffed a wedge to about 10 feet on the par-4  first hole of the playoff and rolled in the putt to knock off Jarrett Bossert of Belvedere and Max Murchison of Glencoe.  All three competitors were coming off successful Alberta Junior Championship performances last week at Coal Creek Golf Resort near Tofield as all three made the 36-hole cut at that event.  Shiv Kaura of Pinebrook narrowly missed making it two Tour events in two days, following up his fine 69 yesterday at McKenzie Meadows in Calgary with a 2-over 74, good for solo fourth.

New qualifers for the Tour Championship today in the boys' division included Hamelin, Murchison, Nikko Sebjanic of Bearspaw (75) from the flight for boys born in 2003 and later, along with Wild Card qualifiers Joe Kelly (79) of  Innisfail, Daniel Thomas (80) of Bearspaw, Devin Kucy (80) of Camrose and Arthur Deng (80) of the Winston GC in Calgary.

Four junior girls were on hand today, and 2016 girls Srixon Order of Merit champion Kaitlyn Wingnean of the Derrick GWC in Edmonton  earned her first Tour win of the season with an 82.

Of note was the pace of play today. In our crossover start, the first twosome off the back 9 played in a brisk three hours and ten minutes, and the lead dog threesome off the front 9 whisked around in three hours and twenty minutes.  Well done, kids!

The Tour moves north 26 km up Highway 2A in the morning to Olds Central Highlands GC for their event, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Q = Player qualified for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 28th.

PQ = Player had previously qualified for the Tour Championship

The players listed in the Results section are those that finish in the Top 6 and ties in each age group, thereby earning Srixon Order of Merit ranking points.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
