Innisfail is one of the four remaining charter members of the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, dating back to our inaugural season in 1996.  Over that time, hundreds of Alberta's top juniors have tackled the slick greens, dense bush, and narrow fairways at the beautifully conditiioned Central Alberta layout, but often without much success in shooting low scores.

Today's' Innisfail Junior Open was no different, as juniors from as far away as Medicine Hat, Calgary, Drumheller and Edmonton did their best to navigate their way around the rolling fairways at the site of the 2016 Sun Life Alberta Men's Amateur Championship. Noah Hackett, 16, of Ponoka, looked for a while like he was headed for a train wreck, as he was 5-over par after 5 holes, but he steadied the ship and played  his last 13 holes only 1-over to post a 76, good for a 2-shot margin over Jackson Squires of Pheasantback and Broadmoor's Chase Bodoano, tied for 2nd with matching 78's.  The host club's Tyler Watt was the only other player in the field to break 80 with his 4th-place 79. All four players qualified for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 28th with their play today and will be joined by Logan Graf of the Red Deer GCC, whose 83 topped the flight for boys born in 2003 and later.

Only one junior girl was on hand today; Kayla Ainscough of the host club, but she earned her way into the Tour Championship nonetheless with her score of 115 as most of the province's top juniors are otherwise occupied this week at the Alberta Golf Junior Championships at Coal Creek Golf Resort near Tofield.

We are disappointed to report though, that the next scheduled event on the Tour, Thursday's Junior Open in Drayton Valley, has been cancelled.  We only had a handful of entries for their tournament, and I guess going up against the provincial championship made it just too problematic for the Drayton layout to attract a field of competitors.  No plans are on tap at the moment to re-schedule this event for the 2017 Tour.

Q = Player qualified for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 28th.

WC = Wild Card qualifier for the Tour Championship

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
