The Jordan Brand Memorial Junior Open is one of four remaining charter events on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe Mackay.  The Tour has had this prestigious junior golf tournament on its calendar since the Tour's inception in 1996, allowing hundreds of young golfers the opportunity to test their games on the often narrow fairways and always slick, smooth greens of this central Alberta layout, while honouring the memory of a young Lacombe junior who passed away far too early in life.  Jordan Brand's father Bruce was on hand again this year to help support the tournament and encourage the players in their efforts.

We had a one-hour delay to the start of proceedings this morning due to a heavy fog that enveloped the golf course.  For a while, it looked like it just didn't want to burn off, but once we had the "GO" sign at 10 am to begin play, the fog quickly lifted and we were treated to a beautiful, sunny morning.  When all the scorecards had been turned in, we had a three-way playoff for the boys' tournament title between Cam Duffin of Red Deer, Arthur Deng of The Winston GC in Calgary, and Innisfail's Tyler Watt.  All three players had fired rounds of 3-over par 74. Tanner Smith of River Bend GC in Red Deer just missed making it a foursome; one shot back in fourth place with a 75.  Duffin stuck his approach shot on the par-4 18th hole to about 12 feet in the playoff, and his routine two-putt par was good for the win when both Deng and Watt were unable to get up and down from just short of the putting surface.  Duffin is shown above with Lacombe Director of Golf Kevin Broderson as he accepts the tournament trophy.

After today's tournament, only eight events remain on the 2017 Tour schedule leading up to the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 28th. Qualifying spots for Wolf Creek were up for grabs again today, and new qualifiers today included Jace Ouellette (80) from Innisfail from the flight for boys born in 1998-2000, Denver Smith (80) of River Bend in the flight for boys born in 2001-02, and Colby Halwa (85) from the flight of younger players born in 2003 and later.  Wild Card spots went to Lacombe's  Brendan Grabo (81) amd Carter Doerksen (84) from Grande Prairie.  Carter left the course before the prize presentations, presumably to get an early start on the long drive home, but we were unable to get his contact information in order to inform him that he had qualified for Wolf Creek.  (Carter, if you're reading this, please send me an email,,,,Dunc)

In the junior girls' flight today, Abi Hartzler of Carstairs earned her first-ever Tour win with a fine 79, two shots clear of Brooke Brezovski of Sturgeon Valley GC in St. Albert. Hartzler's round got her into the field for the Tour Championship.

The Tour continues a busy week with the 36-hole Goose Hummock Junior Open coming up Thursday and Friday over the water-lined fairways of "The Goose" just north of Gibbons.  Next week is no breather either, with events Tuesday at Ponoka, Wednesday's 'major feel' tournament at the Edmonton Petroleum Club, and the increasingly popular Trestle Creek tournament next Thursday.  Entries for all of next week's events are open now, so don't miss these terrific opportunities for some excellent junior golf competition.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
