Often I get asked why junior boys in the younger age bracket have to play the same set of tees as the older groups of kids. Well today's Barrhead Junior Open answered that question.  We sometimes shorten the course for the younger kids depending on the nature of the layout, but at Barrhead there really aren't any major forced carries, so the kids roll out the golf ball and away we go.

Jace Shannon, 14, of the Forestburg GC has been knocking on the door in this age group for a while, having finished fifth in the group in the 2017 Titleist Order of Merit standings, but today his 78 was the best of the bunch of over 30 juniors from as far away as Peace River, Wabasca, Camrose and the greater Edmonton area.  Shannon nipped Mitch Deslarlais of Broadmoor by a single shot, with Zach Zabot of Eagle Point GC alone in third place at 80.  As per usual with McLennan Ross events, we had a nice mix of young players in their first tournament along with seasoned Tour players tuning up for next week's Alberta Golf Junior Boys Championship in Sundre.

Only one junior girl was on hand today, 15 year-old Annika Tam of Lewis Estates, also competing in her first junior event.  She hit a number of fine shots on way to a score of 106 on the tight Barrhead layout.

Early season qualifiers for the season-ending Tour Championship included Shannon, Desjarlais and Tam along with Wild Card qualifiers Nicolas Pittman of Highlands, Robert Kincaid, Tristan Hiemstra, and Gavin Moes, all of the host Barrhead club with matching 81s.

** - Nicolas Pittman, I somehow let you get away without getting information to you about the Tour Championship.  You have qualified. Please send me an email so I can get this information to you,.....Dunc

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
