Today's Carstairs Junior Open was a 're-do' of their originally scheduled event from two weeks ago that was rained out.  It looked for a while this afternoon that today's tournament might suffer the same fate, but the rains never got much worse than a Scotch mist, and juniors from as far away as Edmonton and Lethbridge enjoyed what ended up being a fairly decent afternoon for junior golf.

Braden O'Grady, 15, of the Edmonton Petroleum GCC fired a career-best 1-under par 71 to easily win the overall low gross for the junior boys, 7 shots clear of Chase Bodoano of Broadmoor and  Innisfail's Joe Kelly. Braden finished his round in style, stiffing an iron shot to the par-3 8th hole in the shotgun start for his fourth birdie of the round and a career-low.

O'Grady has had a busy month, having competed in the Alberta Golf Junior Boys' championship earlier this month in Sundre, where he finished T23 and was subsequently selected to represent Alberta in the annual Alberta /Montana Ryder Cup competition, which will be held early in August in Whitefish MT.  O'Grady earned his spot in the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek GR on August 27 with his effort today. Also bagging spots in the field for Wolf Creek this afternoon were Alfredo Valezillos from the flight for boys born in 1999-2001, Cole Fox (84) of Innisfail in the flight for boys born in 2004 and later, and Wild Card qualifiers Christopher Colberg (88) of Bearspaw and Kyle Schwartz (89) from Inglewood.

In the junior girls' flight, the clear-cut pre-tournament favorite was the host club's Abi Hartzler, who was able to compete today instead of at the orginally scheduled Carstairs tournament as she was otherwise occupied that week at the Alberta Golf Junior Girls Championship where she finished 14th.  Her 85 today was easily the winner over three younger girls getting some of their first tournament experience.

The Tour moves into Calgary tomorrow at McKenzie Meadows GC and east to Strathmore on Thursday to complete a busy four-events-in-four days week of competition. Entries are still open for Strathmore on Thursday, so if you would  like to play, call them first thing on Wednesday, please.

Q = Player qualified for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek GR on August 27.

WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
