Morning has broken!  Players start their warmups under a clear blue sky  in Ponoka.  It was a beautiful day for junior golf.

Ponoka is one of the four remaining charter member sites on the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Crowe MacKay.  I doubt we have had very many nicer mornings in the last 23 years of the Tour that greeted 42 juniors today from Edmonton to Calgary and throughout Central Alberta at the beautifully groomed Ponoka Community Golf Club.  Site of the 2017 Sun Life Finanicial Alberta Men's Amateur Championshiop, Ponoka has always provided more than enough challenge to any tournament competitors, especially with their lightning fast greens.

Cole Ruelling just keeps on rolling, "blowing up" this morning to a 1-over par 73, coming on the heels of his back-to-back 68s last Thursday and Friday when he lapped the field at Goose Hummock. Today was a lot tighter finish, as Cole Bergheim of Red Deer and Cole Fox of Innisfail were nipping at the Lewis Estates youngster's heels with fine scores of 74 themselves.  Mitch Desjarlais of Broadmoor was another shot back in solo fourth on 75.  At this time of year, many of the players in the field have previously qualified for the upcoming Tour Championship, so in some flights today we had to go down a few spots to identify the players who earned their way into the field at Wolf Creek.

Today's qualifiers were Brendan Grabo (80) of the host club and Ethan Klutke (80) of River Valley Juniors from the flight for boys born in 199902001, Easton Moore of Sylvan Lake GC (84) from the flight for boys born in 2002-2003, and Ryker Flikenger (85) from Pine Hills GC in Rocky Mountain House from the flight for boys born in 2004 and later.  Nathan Molchulski of Broadmoor snagged a Wild Card spot with an 84 out of the flight for boys born in 99-01, which was actually only T11 in his flight today.  You gotta pick your spots, kids!

In the junior girls' divison, Jayla Kucy of Camrose, 12, joined her two older brothers Mason and Devin in the field for Wolf Creek with a fine 82.  Kucy has had a very busy summer including competitions in  both the Alberta Golf Junior Girls Championship (15th)  and the Alberta Golf Ladies Championship (T21). Jayla also tee'd it up at the Golf Canada Canadian Junior Girls Championship in Beach Grove BC last week against all the best junior girls in the country, and missed the 36-hole cut by only two shots.

Next stop on Tour is at the Edmonton Petroleum GCC tomorrow for what has quickly become a 'major' event on the McLennan Ross Junior Tour.  We expect a season-high field of close to 90 players tomorrow, so bring you game!  If you are entered, and a little unsure of how to find the Pete Club, directions are on the Home Page of the Tour website.  Get there early tomorrow, kids, as it's an 8 am shotgun start.

Q = Player qualified for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 27

WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Champoinship

The players listed below are the Top Six and ties in each age group, who thereby earned Titleist Order of Merit ranking points.  This is not the entire field of players on hand today.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
