Stony Plain GC has always had the reputation for providing one of the best junior programs in the city, and their Junior Open has been a key component of the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour since 1997.  The 2018 edition of the tournament went off without a hitch Monday afternoon as 43 juniors from across northern Alberta dropped in to compete as the Tour is winding down its 2018 regular season schedule. Mason Kucy of Camrose came out on top today with a solid 3-over par 75, good for a 3-shot margin over his clubmate Erik Bouck , Zach Zabot of Eagle Point, and Arend de Waal of Barrhead who all tied for 2nd with 78s.  We had an unprecedented situation in the flight for boys born in 1999-2001, as all 12 competitors in that age division has previously qualified for the Tour Championship coming up at Wolf Creek in two weeks.  See kids?  If you were in that age bracket and had not yet qualified for the Tour Championship, all you would have had to do today was show up, complete your round, and you were in!  Gotta know how to pick your spots!

New qualifiers today were:  Arend de Waal (78) of Barrhead in the flight for boys born in 2002-03, Daniel Lopez-Peterson (93) of Countryside GC in the flight for boys born in 2004 and later, and Wild Card qualifiers Joey Calderella (82) and Kennedy Bailey-Borged (83) of Wolf Creek.   ATTENTION! -  Joey, if you are reading this, you left the golf course before I could meet with you to get you your information for the Tour Championship.  Please email me so I can send you your Confirmation Letter....Dunc

We had a nice field of ten junior girls on hand today, and it was largely a "Battle of the Sisters" with the three Wingneans from the Derrick pitted against the two Brezovskis from Sturgeon Valley.  Form held as it went BWBW in the top four spots, but we had a mild upset as the younger Brezovski, Belle, bested the field with a nice round of 80, two shots clear of three-time Titleist Order of Merit champion Kaitlyn Wingnean of the Derrick. Belle will now be in the field at Wolf Creek along with her sister.  The Wild Card qualifiying spot today went to Kiana Lynguyen (99) of the Royal Mayfair.

Only two regular season event remain on the calendar as the 2018 Tour season winds down.  We are out at Me-Me-O Beach this Thursday for the always fun and challenging Black Bull Junior Open, and a week today, we wind up the 2018 season in Nanton.  So if you are looking for some additional competition, or tuneups for Wolf Creek, or just want some fun with your friends, please make sure you enter these events. Black Bull is holding open entries until Wednesday afternoon, but if you're going to go, please call them today.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
