Yoweeeyyyy,,that was HOT out there today!  For once, the weatherman was bang on in his forecast as temperatures hit the 32C mark by the time the junior golfers on hand at Whitetail Crossing in Mundare had finished their rounds.  Full marks to General Manager Laurent Leblanc and his team of volunteers who kept the players well hydrated with complimentary water delivered to them throughout their rounds.

For a while this morning as scores were being turned in, it seemed like Lewis Estates' Cole Ruelling, 16, would be cruising to a win as his even-par 72 was three shots clear of the next best score posted by the older players on hand today.  But the last group off the golf course, four boys aged 14 and younger, nearly upset the apple cart.  Colin Pasitney of St. Paul and Windermere's Jonathan Meng, born in 2004 and 2005 respectively, nearly pulled the upset as each player eventually posted scores of 1-over par 73 to finish tied for second.  Jarret Bossert of Belvedere was solo fourth on 75.  All four earned spots in the season ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek with their play today.

They will be joined by Blake Reimer of Windermere and Camrose's Rory Wutzke, whose 79s tied for the qualifying spot in the flight for boys born in 2002 / 2003.  We just didn't have the heart to send those kids back out in that heat for a sudden-death playoff for a Tour Championship spot.  Additional Wild Card spots went to St. Paul's Brandon Fedoruk and Nicholas Mah of Glendale with 77s.

In the junior girls' flight, we had five girls on hand today to compete.  Zoe Banack of Edson toured the Whitetail Crossing layout in 87 blows, five shots clear of Sophie Pasitney of St. Paul to punch her ticket to Wolf Creek.  I'm sure we will see much more of this Edson youngster in Tour events to come later this summer.

A busy week on Tour continues tomorrow at Montgomery Glen GC in Wetaskiwin, followed by the Camrose Junior Open on Thursday.  This week's events lead up to an outstanding opportunity on Monday, July 23 at RedTail Landing GC in Nisku, site of this week's Sun Life Financial Alberta Men's Amateur Championship.  Entries are open for all three events right now.  If you plan on going, please phone the respective Tour courses as soon as possible.

ATTENTION - Nicholas Mah!  Nick, I missed your name in the results and you also snagged a Wild Card spot for Wolf Creek.  I have you in the field but will need some additional information from you at your next Tour stop.  Or email me,,,Dunc

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour events.
